The Organising Committee would like to invite the submission of abstracts for the CAANS 2018 meeting.

Presentation formats available include:
o Oral platform (7 – 10 minutes to be confirmed)
o Oral flash (3 minutes)
o Poster Display

Authors are requested to indicate their preference, but should note that the final decision lies with the Scientific Committee.  Authors are requested to take note of the additional instructions below.

Abstract Format
Maximum of 300 words
No graphs or diagrams permitted.

o General Neurosurgery
o Neuro-oncology
o Paediatric Neurosurgery
o Socio-economic
o Spine
o Trauma

Kindly divide your abstract according to the following headings. Abstracts not conforming to this format will be returned

Abstracts not conforming to this format will be returned.

Acceptance
Abstracts will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee who reserve the right to accept and allocate abstracts for either poster or oral presentation. All presenters of accepted abstracts must be registered as congress delegates.

BURSARIES, SCHOLARSHIPS & AWARDS


Immediate Application requested

Bursary and scholarship applications are available. Applicants must indicate whether they wish to be considered for one of the available scholarships by selecting the relevant bursary/scholarship option from the drop-down menu during the online Abstract submission process. Applicants will be informed as soon as possible as to the outcome of submissions to allow successful candidates sufficient time for visa applications and to make travel arrangements.

BURSARIES

The Scientific Committee will select from the submitted abstracts that cover original and innovative research to receive either a full or partial bursary. There is no age restriction, but young African Neurosurgeons, Health workers, Scientists and Researchers are encouraged to apply, preferably working in Africa. Those working on operational research and practical projects will be considered favourably.

Full Bursaries


There are 3 full bursaries open to all applicants who submit an abstract to attend the Congress.

Criteria, (if selected), the applicant
o Should confirm that he/she has not received a bursary from CAANS in the past 3 years;
o Has not published the finding previously with any other platform;
o Is prepared to allow publication of the abstract in a peer review journal;
o Will be present at the CAANS Congress and will write a report for the CAANS website at the end of the meeting;
o Will inform the CAANS committee well in advance, by end May 2018 if unable to attend so that the funds can be awarded to other candidates.

Successful applicants will receive the following:
• A maximun of US $ 500 towards airfare (economy class). The airfare will be reimbursed to the candidate once they have arrived at the conference and presented a receipt plus a copy of the flight ticket;
• Full congress registration and accommodation for 4 nights;
• Complimentary attendance to social functions
• The winning abstract will be published in the CAANS Journal

Partial Bursaries


There are 5 partial bursaries available, open to all applicants who submit an abstract to attend the Congress.

Criteria, (if selected), the applicant
o Should confirm that he/she has not received a bursary from CAANS in the past 3 years;

o Is prepared to allow publication of the abstract in a peer review journal;
o Will be present at the CAANS Congress and will write a report for the CAANS website at the end of the meeting;
